At Truro Township Fire Department, we are committed to providing our team with the most realistic and effective training to ensure preparedness for real-life emergencies.

Our team consists of 47 full-time, fully certified professionals who collaborate closely to handle any emergency situation effectively. We also have a compliment of part-time staff that will support our staffing that are also all fully trained to the same standards as our full-time staff.

All Truro Township firefighters and paramedics meet and exceed the required training hours set by the state. Our personnel participate in extensive drills, continuing education, and specialized hands-on training to ensure the highest level of readiness.

Physical fitness is a critical component of firefighting and emergency response. Our firefighters have dedicated time for physical fitness training, and both of our fire stations are equipped with fully functional fitness rooms to ensure our personnel remain in peak physical condition.

Both of our fire stations are equipped with training props, including forcible entry doors, computer-aided fire-ground operations simulations, mannequins for victim removal, window props, and EMS training mannequins for practicing advanced airway maneuvers, IOs, IVs, and more.
To further enhance training realism, we utilize acquired structures for hands-on drills, allowing our firefighters to practice search and rescue, ventilation, and fire suppression techniques in actual buildings. These structures provide invaluable training opportunities that help our firefighters develop and refine their skills in real-world environments.

To ensure our personnel receive the most up-to-date fire and EMS education, Truro Township Fire Department brings in experienced instructors to teach specialized topics for fire-ground operations. We also have strong relationships with local hospitals, which will come in to provide our personnel with training opportunities in advanced medical care.

In addition to in-house and local training, our department invests in continuous learning by funding firefighters to attend outside training sessions. We send our personnel to live fire training courses, specialized training classes and Fire/EMS conferences across the country. This exposure ensures that our firefighters stay current with the latest techniques, equipment, and industry advancements.

Located just down the road, the Ohio Fire Academy is an essential resource for our department. We utilize their facilities for advanced training, including live fire scenarios, technical rescue drills, and command-level education.

Many Truro Township firefighters are state-certified fire and EMS instructors. This allows us to provide high-quality, in-house education while also ensuring that new hires and seasoned personnel alike benefit from the knowledge and expertise within our own department.

We recognize the importance of seamless coordination with surrounding fire departments. Our personnel participate in large-scale, multi-jurisdictional training exercises with the departments we respond with on a daily basis. These collaborative drills usually occur twice a year and aim to improve teamwork, communication, and efficiency during real-world emergencies.

While all newly hired firefighters are already state-certified, they must complete an intensive orientation program before being fully utilized as staffing. This program includes advanced skill development, operational procedures, and hands-on training to ensure they meet our department’s high standards before being cleared for full duty.

Truro Township Fire Department remains dedicated to providing the highest level of training to ensure our firefighters and paramedics are prepared to handle any emergency effectively.
