Our team integrates into the overall mission by providing additional manpower. We assist the SWAT team with medical care to victims during hostage situations by providing medical directions and medicine across the lines if possible. We also may carry the ballistic shields and other equipment as needed to ensure a safe and successful mission. Our team is currently comprised of 6 paramedics who are required to undergo specialty training for care under fire. Unlike a rescue task force that is used to care for victims with in the warm zone (an area deemed clear of assailants by officers) the TEMS members enter the hot zone with police to provide care for an officer that may be injured while trying to neutralize an active threat.
